Tag Ure World

Tag Ure World is a location-based, social-networking tool for the iPhone allowing users to leave messages or tags at any point in the world. If users are out and about and see something interesting, they can be the first to record it right at that location with their iPhone for others to see when in the same area. The app was part of a package that also consists of a web interface - www.tagureworld.com in addition to the iPhone application.

The iPhone app consists of 3 different views - the first view shows a list of the nearest tags to the user (based on their gps location) in order of proximity. The second view takes advantage of the onboard google maps software and plots tags on a scrollable map, whereas the third view, called "Sonar" allows the phone to be put away and alerts the user when they come within a certain range of a tag with a vibration and an audible sonar "ping".

The social nature of Tag Ure World means that friend lists can be built up - meaning you can see your friends tags and they can see yours. When adding a tag, the user can choose who gets to the see them - "Public" means they are viewable by everyone, "Private" means they are only viewable by the user and "Friends Only" means only you and your friends can see the tags.

Seeing as the main purpose of Tag Ure World is to inform, the addition of Wikipedia articles (geonames.org) is a valuable addition to the iPhone app.

The iPhone app was built using a combination of html, javascript and css (courtesy of the phonegap plugin) as well as Objective C and takes advantage of the iPhone's onboard compass, camera, audio player and gps functionality.
